macOS says Cowinx can't be opened
Gatekeeper · unidentified developer · app is damaged
- Open Cowinx once and let the launch fail.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the bottom.
- Click Open Anyway, then Open.
Don't download a replacement build from a mirror — the block is expected on first launch.
The transcript stays empty
can't hear interviewer · no transcript · microphone · system audio
- Enable both Microphone and Screen & System Audio Recording in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Quit Cowinx completely and reopen it — permission changes need a fresh launch.
- Check the meeting is playing through the Mac output device you selected.
Changed headphones mid-session? Cowinx re-attaches to the new device on its own within a few seconds.
Permission is enabled but nothing changes
permission stuck · toggle does nothing · stale grant
- Toggle the permission off.
- Quit Cowinx, then restart the Mac.
- Enable the permission again and relaunch Cowinx.
macOS can hold a stale grant after an app update.
The overlay showed up in a screen share
Zoom · Teams · Meet · visible overlay
- Update macOS, Cowinx, and the meeting app.
- On Zoom, set Screen capture mode to Advanced capture with window filtering.
- Retest in a private call from a second device before using it again.
Stop relying on the overlay until your own test passes. Steps are in the launch checklist, and how the screen-share exclusion works explains what macOS does and does not cover.
Answers are slow or never arrive
latency · timeout · network · VPN
- Check the transcript is still updating — if it froze, the problem is audio, not the answer.
- Turn off VPNs and restrictive proxies, then retry.
- Switch to a more stable network.
